What We Pay
To determine this, a Michigan Gold and Diamond Exchange representative must weigh and evaluate your precious metals and purity content.

Our trained professionals will evaluate:
  • The weight of each metal (i.e. silver, gold, platinum)
  • The purity of each metal (i.e. 14k, 16k, 18k, 21k, 22k, 24k, 925, Plat)
  • The value of each gemstone (i.e. carat, cut, color, clarity)
  • Whether it is resaleable or not.
As of September 2011 with the spot price around $1800 - $1900, Michigan Gold and Diamond Exchange was paying on average $17/gram on 10k and $27/gram on 14k.

Keep in mind that these payout prices are for metals that we will refine. If you have jewelry that you feel is worth more due to its designer name, quality, uniqueness or age (antique). Please contact us for an appointment to evaluate your piece. Michigan Gold and Diamond Exchange will do it's very best to get the most for your precious metals and gems.

Please remember:
  • Many gold buyers display what they are paying per gram or pennyweight, however; they will use an electronic tester that will most of the time return a reading of less purity than what your jewelry is stamped. (i.e. your 14kt ring is actually 13.2kt, therefore you do not qualify for the advertised price of $29/gram)
  • Make sure you know the exact weight of your items. Michigan Gold and Diamond Exchange weighs items in grams only not pennyweights (d.w.t.). One troy oz of gold equals 31.1 grams or 20 pennyweights.
  • Make sure that the scale being used is a state certified scale and that it is set to grams. (g stands for grams, d.w.t. stands for pennyweights)
