A third generation jeweler, Gerard began his apprenticeship in rich family tradition at the age of 14, working in his father's fine jewelry manufacturing shop as a polisher, then model maker and diamond setter. At age 19, he graduated top in his class from the GIA as the youngest gemologist in the U.S., and for the next eight years served as chief designer and buyer of diamonds and colored gems for his family's three retail stores and two trade shops.
